"China and Muscles"
Newsletter No. 7

Throughout the history of modern day Muscle Men we have been fascinated by Martial Arts Experts. Some of the most popular and well known Martial Arts Experts appeared on our television and movie screens via China. These Men are known as Action Heroes trained and skilled in the Arts of Karate, Judo, Jujitsu and Kung Fu just to name a few of these Arts. These Men are the China Muscles of our time!

The most popular Chinese Martial Arts Expert of the 20th Century was actually born in San Francisco but was raised in Hong Kong. Bruce Lee, born Lee Jun-fan in 1940, mesmerized us when he first appeared on the movie screens in the USA in the early 1970's in Martial Arts Action Films such as "The Big Boss", "Fist of Fury", "Way of the Dragon", "Enter the Dragon" and "The Game of Death". Bruce Lee was also the founder and creator of JeetKune Do, The Way of the Intercepting Fist. Like many young men, when I was a young boy I was fascinated by his movies and watched them over and over again; Bruce Lee was just too cool! Sadly, Bruce Lee passed away at the early age of 32 in Hong Kong but he will always be remembered as the Chinese Martial Arts Expert that fascinated the West with his discipline and fighting skills that paved the way for future Chinese Martial Arts Movie Action Heroes. Simply put, Bruce Lee is a Legend.

One of those future Action Heroes is Jackie Chan. Jackie Chan was born Chan Kong-sang in Hong Kong in 1954. Jackie Chan began his film career as a child, but as a young adult began working as a stuntman at the age of 17 in films with Bruce Lee such as "Fist of Fury" and "Enter the Dragon". Known for many films throughout Asia, Jackie Chan is known in the USA for many of his more recent films. One cannot forget the Rush Hour series with co-star Chris Tucker; absolutely action packed and hilarious!

Another Chinese Martial Arts Movie Action Hero is none other than the mysterious bad ass Jet Li. Jet Li was born Li Lian-jie in Beijing China in 1963. Jet Li is known for many Martial Arts Action Films in which he portrays a mystical and transcendental persona that explodes only when necessary into a proficient fighting machine! Some of his best and well known films in the USA are "Romeo Must Die" and "Fearless". Recently Jet Li appeared in two of Sylvester Stallone's action movies gone wild, the "Expendables" 1 and 2 with the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dolph Lundgren, Jason Statham, Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme.

In 2012 I travelled to China with a group for the first time. I visited many cities such as Beijing, Xian, Guilin, Chong Qing, Suzhou and Shanghai. I travelled the Yangtze River and visited many of the most historical places in the history of this fascinating country, and on the planet earth. With thousands of years of history and a population of more than 1.3 Billion people, China is indeed a place worth exploring at least once in one's life time. Tiananmen Square, The Forbidden City, The Great Wall, The Terracotta Warriors, The Guilin Caves, The Silk Art Institution of Suzhou; China is massive and filled with art and history. Being the Bodybuilding Champion that I am, I could not help but to have some fun and flex my Muscles at some of the most impressive places on earth while in China!

Bruce Lee said, "Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do."
